The University of Toronto invites
applications for a joint tenure-stream,
endowed chair appointment in the
Department of Political Science
(51%) and the Munk School of Global
Affairs and Public Policy (49%) in
the area of Japanese Politics
and Global Affairs. The appointment will
be at the rank of Associate or
Full Professor and will commence July
1, 2019. The successful candidate must
have a PhD in politics,
government, international relations, or a
closely related discipline at the
time of appointment and be
able to provide evidence of
innovative research excellence of an
internationally competitive calibre, as
evidenced by a record of
publications in leading outlets in
the field, presentations at
significant conferences, accolades or
awards, and strong endorsements by
referees of high standing. Candidates
should have an established
international reputation based on a
scholarly record of excellence appropriate
to their career stage. Evidence
of excellence in teaching and a
demonstrated commitment to graduate
education and mentorship are
required. Evidence of excellence in
teaching will be demonstrated by strong
letters of reference, teaching
evaluations, graduate supervision, dossier
and/or syllabi submitted as part of
the application. The ideal candidate
will focus on Japanese politics
(including political history) in
comparative and international perspective,
Japanese policy in global and regional
context, or international relations and
contemporary Japan. The appointment
will be contingent upon a
successful tenure review. Salary will
be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

with the Department and with the
global focus of the Munk
School. The appointee will
contribute to the education and
training of undergraduate and graduate
students in both the Department
and the School. The opportunity
is also available to direct a new
Centre for the Study of Global
Japan established in the School
to stimulate collaborative scholarship and
